GBA4iOS, a popular Game Boy emulator for iOS has been shut down after Nintendo filed a Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) takedown request.
GBA4iOS allowed gamers to play Game Boy Advanced, Game Boy Color, and original Gameboy ROMs directly on their iPads and iPhones.
GBA4iOS 2.0 which was released in February brought several new features including an iPad version, Dropbox support and cheat codes. You could install the GBA4iOS using Mobile Safari on your iPhone or iPad, and more importantly without jailbreaking your iOS device.
The emulator took advantage of Apple’s Enterprise Distribution program, which allows the installation of non-App Store apps without the need to jailbreak a device.
Riley Testut, the teenage developer of GBA4iOS has clarified that GBA4iOS will continue to work on devices it has already been installed on, but new downloads have been suspended.

Meanwhile, NDS4iOS, an emulator for Nintendo DS for iOS which was released in April is still available. I won’t be surprised if Nintendo tries to take it down as well by filing a DMCA takedown request.
Popularity of emulators for iOS like GBA4iOS, NDS4iOS highlight why Nintendo should reconsider its decision not to bring its games to the App Store.
